In order to get to know me, one must meet my crazy family. In that context, everything about me will make complete sense!
My sweet husband, Jay. It started with simple park picnics, great books, and a photography class …he became my best friend. I fell in love in the darkroom with both the process of creating a piece of art and with the man who would become my husband. We marked our ninth wedding anniversary on June 10th. We’ve encountered some pretty major losses and failures along side amazing blessings and successes. Jay has a goofy sense of humor, rarely takes himself seriously, and is passionately devoted to our family. He is my right hand in this venture by handling all of the incoming inquires and taking care of scheduling, freeing me to stay behind the camera and build relationships with our clients. He is still my best friend.
Our seven year old son, Ethan. I know I’m his mom so I’m a touch biased, but this child is brilliant. Multiplication is his specialty. His favorite pastime is being quizzed by adults and solving the problem before the other adults in the room. I mean, seriously, who does that? I think I’m still slightly jealous that he consistently beats me. He is insane and crazy, moody and stubborn, and loves passionately and with unwaivering loyalty. Our world is colored by his laughter and his hugs.
And then there’s Carter, who seems to be the most fiercely independant three year old I’ve ever met. The boundries of my sanity are tested on a daily basis. He rivels Ethan in terms of decibal levels and intensity. His belly giggle that comes from good tickle is one of my favorite sounds on the planet. For Carter, music is essential. Dancing is appropriate at all hours of the day and for any reason.
And, of course, I am Jen. I eat cereal without milk, sing at the top of my lungs, and secretly like getting dressed up. Coastal Living is my favorite magazine and I always find it difficult to resist the urge to remodel our house in the city to look like a beach home. White washed wood and cedar shingles freckle my dreams. Someday. Traveling energizes me and unethical practices anger me more than just about anything else. I’m speechless when it comes to describing how intensely I love my boys.
When it comes to photography, relationships are my passion. In a wedding, to be surrounded by a couples’ inner most group of loved ones and bare witness to some of the sweetest moments life has to offer…it really is an amazing experience to behold and document. I say this over and over, but it truly is an honor to be chosen to photograph the moments of a new beginning.
