Merry Christmas!

A few weeks ago, I had the honor of photographing a very special family’s annual Christmas card photo!  I first met Jonathan and Marissa about two and a half years ago when they asked me to photograph their BlessingAway ceremony and their Wedding Reception the next day (they wed in Hawaii a few months prior).  They had a fantastic themed first family Christmas card (I Saw Mommy Kissing Santa Claus) and last year’s card was a scene from the Nutcracker, complete with a rat suit and tutus.  However, this year was my favorite theme yet!

*In related news, our family will be sending out Valentine’s Day cards this year!  We didn’t quite make the Christmas deadline ;)

On one of the very last fall days of the season, I had the privilege of photographing Paul and Hillary’s engagement photos in Ann Arbor!  After having to reschedule several times due to bad weather, we finally found a day that ended up being perfect.  It was one of those soft light days that photographers crave, especially considering the vintage and romantic feel they wanted for their photos.  I had a wonderful time getting to know them and simply cannot wait to photograph the wedding next year!!

I am so excited for the opportunity to document Nathan and Elena’s wedding day in East Lansing next year!  They drove in from Lansing to do their engagement session on the closing day of ArtPrize.  I had figured the crowds would have diminished a bit as Nathan and Elena wanted pretty downtown photos (versus urban decay).  Wow… was I wrong.  It was tricky trying to find an area not swarming with ArtPrize tourists.  I’m pretty happy with what we were able to find.  Nearly all of the downtown photos were taken with at least 50 people standing within 75 feet of us.  They also wanted more of a garden/romantic theme which brought us to Holmdene.  It’s always a nice challenge to shoot at a location that SO many photographers frequent and come out with your own unique vision.  Elena also REALLY wanted a rendition of a Twilight photo (which I cannot seem to find online now) so we went back to the studio and gave it our best shot at two different versions!  We nailed one of the photos but I’m pretty sure the other Twilight photo was a composite as the lighting and even the angle would have been impossible in a single take.  Real life is better anyway.  :)

A few weeks ago, I had the pleasure of meeting Miguel and Alexa to discuss their wedding next year as well as do some engagement photos at Alexa’s family summer cottage.  While it was a cooker of a day, Miguel and Alexa didn’t seem to notice at all.  In fact, they get an A+ for laughter, love, and life.  How cute are they?!  Can’t wait for the wedding (which will be amazing as it’s being designed and orchestrated by A Day In May)!

*Special thanks to Jonathan Thrasher who manned a second camera!
